Old Hurst Johnians CC v The Stoics C.C. Stoics CC on Thu 07 Aug 2014 at 11.30am
The Stoics C.C. Lost

Match report A most glorious day for this old fixture. Hurst won the toss and chose to bat. A lively opening spell from Oliver Smith and Paul Harvey had the Hurst batsmen struggling for runs. With a breakthrough in the fifth over, the Stoics were looking good and felt in control of proceedings. However a series of dropped catches allowed Greg Wisdom (grandson of Norman!) achieve a ton. Hurst eventually declared on 267 for 4 from 51 overs.

The Stoics openers, Adam Clarke and Ian Harvey, set about the task of winning the game in imperious style and at 140 for no wicket looked well on course. However in the 25th over with the score on 143 Adam (75) spooned the ball back to the bowler and then two balls later Ian did the same! All the subsequent batsmen seemed to find the bowling a different kettle of fish . Oliver Smith offered some resistance but then disgraced himself by running out his captain, who in the process managed to flatten the Hurst keeper. The win was still a possibility with Simon Barrs at the wicket but all was lost when he departed to a superb catch. The Stoics were eventually bowled out for 215.
