The Stoics C.C.

Scorecard

Woodford Wells v The Stoics C.C. Stoics CC on Wed 23 Jun 2010 at 11.30am
The Stoics C.C. Lost by 2 wickets

Match report On a blistering hot day Stoics batted first and Jeff Hurrell unfortunately played on in the first over. Arfan Akram (78 in just 48 balls) and Babs Oduwole (37) then put the Woodford Wells to the sword with a partnership of 107 in 11 overs. Ed Clements (44) and Jason Coleman (77 NO) then kept the assult going before the innings was declared at 274-5 off only 35.4 overs - a very generous declaration, too generous as it turned out.

When the Wells batted Ed Clements took an early wicket but the Wells's number 2 and 3 bats dug in. Eventually Simon Bridgewater, having gone for 38 runs in first 2 overs, started taking some wickets - the captain had obviously initially bowled him the wrong end! Simon eventually ended with 4-68. However despite taking wickets regularly the Wells had so much time that they finally won in the penultimate over by 2 wickets. The Stoics ended up bowling 56.2 overs.

So despite playing most of the cricket the Stoics finished second, although as always a good day was had by all.
